Privacy Policy
Breadcrumbs is a walking companion that drops a trail as you walk and guides you back. This page explains, in plain terms, what data the app handles and when.
1. Who we are
Breadcrumbs is operated by Taiwo Olatunji ("we", "us"). You can reach us about privacy at olatunji.tjohn@gmail.com.
2. Solo Mode sends nothing
Recording a walk, navigating home, safety timers, safe zones, place learning, the guardian check-in, and the SOS siren all run on your device alone. Your trail, saved walks, safe zones, learned places, and step counts are stored only on your phone. If you never create or join a Circle, become discoverable, or publish a guide, Breadcrumbs makes no network connection to us at all.
Two things always stay on your device and are never uploaded: your walked routes (the trail and any saved walks) and the phone numbers you add to Circle members for the emergency-call shortcut.
3. What leaves your device, and when
When you create or join a Circle
A Circle is a private group you choose. To route messages between phones, we use anonymous authentication (no email, no phone number, no third-party sign-in) and store:
- The display name you type and a public encryption key your phone generates, so other members can address and encrypt to you.
- The circle's name, who owns it, and its member list.
- Your location and status updates — but only ever as end-to-end encrypted data, sealed on your phone before it is sent. We relay it to the specific members you allow; we cannot read it, and it is never stored or sent in plaintext.
You control what each member sees, from nothing at all up to live location, per person, and you can pause sharing at any time.
When you turn on Discover
Discover is off by default and off again every time you open the app. While you are visible, others in your area see the name and "vibe" you pick and an approximate area — a patch roughly 150 metres across — never your exact coordinates. You become invisible automatically after two hours or when you leave, and your presence record is deleted at that point.
When you publish a merchant guide
If you use the "Walk the way to your door" feature, the walking route you record and the place name you give it are published publicly so that anyone who scans your code can follow the path. This is the one feature where data you create is readable by anyone; the app tells you so before you publish, and only you can change or remove a guide you created.
Map imagery
To draw the map, the app requests map tiles from third-party providers (OpenFreeMap and Esri). Like any web request, those providers can see your device's IP address and the map area being requested. We do not send them your name or account.

Data in transit is encrypted. Content you share with your Circle is additionally end-to-end encrypted, meaning we relay it without the ability to read it.
5. Keeping and deleting your data
- Leaving a Circle removes your membership record from that circle.
- Turning off Discover (or letting it time out) deletes your presence record.
- Deleting a merchant guide you created removes it.
- On-device data is removed when you clear the app's data or uninstall it.
- To request deletion of anything associated with your anonymous account, email us at the address above.
6. Children
Breadcrumbs is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
7. Changes
If our data practices change, we will update this page and its "last updated" date. Because the app evolves, we keep this policy matched to what the software actually does.
